Central venous pressure Flashcards
1
Q
Label the CVP wave form
A
- a
- c
- x
- y
- v
2
Q
what causes the a wave?
A
Atrial contraction
(a for Atria)
3
Q
what causes the c wave
A
early ventricuar contraction
it’s from the elevation of the tricuspid valve
(c- for Contraction)
4
Q
what causes the v wave?
A
venous return against a closed tricuspid valve
(v for Venous return)
5
Q
what may cause a large A-wave
A
anything that increases the pressure of right atrium during contraction
- tricuspid stenosis
- Pulmonic stenois
- Pulmonary HTn
- decreased right ventricular compliance
6
Q
what can cause a Large V-wave
A
anything that causes extra filling (fluid) in right atrium
- tricuspid regurg
- right ventricle failure
- Constrictive pericarditis
- Cardiac tamponade
7
Q
why would you use a cvp monitoring
A
Assess pts fluid status/ blood volume
8
Q
will a person on a ventilator or on peep have an accurate CVP?
A
no- will read high, should disconnect for 10-15 seconds to get accurate reading
