Cells & Systems parts of a cell Flashcards
What is the vacuole in a cell?
Liquid-filled spaces for storage for food, and other materials.
What is the mitochondria in a cell?
The powerhouse of the cell, where the cell gets it’s energy.
What is the chloroplast in a cell?
It is only found in plant cells, it is used to collect sun energy and carrying out photosynthesis.
What is the rough ER in a cell?
A series of connected flattened sacs, produce protein for the cell.
What is the Neucleus in a cell?
A fairly large, spiral structure, controls cell’s activities, has all genetic material, contains chromosomes that direct the cell’s growth.
What is the chromatin in a cell?
DNA and proteins that form chromosomes within the nucleus.
What are the ribosomes in a cell?
Small particles in the cytoplasm that produce proteins.
What is the cell membrane in a cell?
It looks like a thin line that surrounds the whole cell which helps control the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
What is the golgi body in a cell?
Flat disc shaped sacs that package materials for the cell.
What is the cytoplasm in a cell?
A liquid inside a cell in which other parts of the cell float and distribute materials to the different parts of a cell.
What is the lysosome in a cell?
A membrane bound cell organell that degrade and recycle cellular waste.
What is the smooth ER in a cell?
It regulates and releases calcium ions and process toxins.
What are the centrioles in a cell?
It helps create the spindle of threads along which is the duplicated chromosomes separated into two new cells.
What is the nucleolus in a cell?
It is a region filled within the cell nucleus that produces and assembles the cell’s ribosomes.
