Cells & Systems Circulatory System Flashcards
What is the Aorta in the circulatory system?
Large artery carrying blood from the left ventricle to the body.
What is the Right Atrium in the circulatory system?
It receives oxygen-poor blood from the body and pumps it to the right ventricle.
What is the Left Atrium in the circulatory system?
It receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle.
What is the Right Ventricle in the circulatory system?
It pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs through the pulmonary valve.
What is the Left Ventricle in the circulatory system?
It pumps oxygen-rich blood through the aortic valve out to the rest of the body.
What is the Pulmonary Artery in circulatory system?
Carries blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
What is the Pulmonary Vein in the circulatory system?
Collects the oxygenated blood and carries it from the lungs back to the heart.
What is the Superior Vena Cava in circulatory system?
Carries blood from the head, neck, arms, and chest.
What is the Inferior Vena Cava in the circulatory system?
Carries blood from the legs, feet, and organs in the abdomen and pelvis.
What are the Arteries in the circulatory system?
Thick-walled blood vessels that take blood away from the heart to the rest of the body.
(represented as red)
What are the Veins in the circulatory system?
Blood vessels that return blood from the body to the heart.
represented as blue
What are the Capillaries in the circulatory system?
Tiny blood vessels that connect arteries to veins.
What is the Blood in the circulatory system?
It brings oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body.
What are the Red Blood Cells in the circulatory system?
Small, pliable cells that have no neucleus and are specialized for carrying oxygen to all the cells of the body.
What are the White blood Cells in the circulatory system?
Blood cells specialized to fight infection.
