Who are the key people in CDM?
- The client (comerical or domestic) - domestic client duties are usally transfered to contractor
- Principle designer - appointed by client for pre-construction phase of any project with more than one contractor
- Principle contractor - appointed by client to coordinate construction phase where there is more than one contractor - Must provide CPP before setting up
Under CDM if there is only one contractor what must they do?
the general principle of prevention must be adopted.
The contract must still produce a CPP
Under CDM what are the clients responbilties?
To appint the other duty holders
make sure the project has enough time and resources
perpare relvent infomation and provide this to the other duty holders
Submit a F10
Provide welfare facilities
Under CDM what must the PD do?
They must plan monitor and mamage the H&S pre-construction
- identifying, elimitaing and controling fopreseeable risks
- Ensure designers carry out thier duties (prepare or modiy designs to reduce, eleimiate or control foreseeable risk during construction and in-use)
- Prepare and provide relevent infomation to the other duty holders
Under CDM what must the PC do?
- Make arrnagements for a CPP before setting up the construction site
- before work starts there must be adequate welfare facilites and sercurity measures
- Contractor must Plan manage and monitor construction work under thier control without risk to health and safety
- with more than one contractor the must comply with PC and PD and coordinate activites.
When do you need to notify the HSE of a project?
When the work will last more than 30 days and have more than 20 works at any one time or will last for more than 500 worker days.
Who notifys the HSE of a project?
This is a client duty.
What happens at completeion of the project under CDM?
The PD must pass on the H&S file to the client.
What construction projects does CDM apply to?
all of them.
