Who should you NOT give CCBs to?
HF patients –> it decreases contractility of already weak heart
What do CCBs work on and what are they good for?
work on heart and blood vessels
selectively act on arterioles and arteries, not so much veins
good for angina
What do verapamil and diltiazem do?
-what condition are they good for?
slow HR and decrease force
reduces artery pressure (vasodilation) and increases coronary perfusion
-good for Afib
Adverse effects of verapamil an diltiazem
dizzy, headache, nausea, face flushing
-beware old ppl
what drugs shouldnt be mixed
CCBs w/ digoxin
CCBs w/ beta blockers
how do we monitor someone on CCBs?
EKGs
Nifedipine
hard core CCB
for pple with SUPER HTN (bc it works on vessels, not heart)
real bad side effects
