- benefit US as they were biggest economy so would gain most
- give America greater influence in Europe

A
- Russia lost 10 million civilians and 15 million soldiers and 31k farms
- Russia close to Germany so could be invaded, US couldn’t (Stalin wanted buffer zone between Germany and Russia)
- America wanted to rebuild Germany but Russia didn’t out of fear of invasion

- Kennan (US embassy of Mexico) sent telegram of USSR foreign policy
- said they controlled people by uniting them against common enemy , the west
- Stalin got on with FDR but telegram said he didn’t want to work with Truman

A
- US agrees to give money to Germany and East Europe so they rebuild and don’t turn to communism
- all Russian owned countries forced to refuse money

What was the 1948 Berlin Airlift?

- Stalin banned the US from brining money and goods to Berlin (making him look bad), so they airlift the stuff in until Stalin gives up

- west Germany, Berlin and Europe were becoming developed while West Berlin, Poland and Russia were being stripped and destroyed by Stalin so everyone wanted to leave for Eastern Europe
