Cardiovascular and Blood Systems Flashcards
Parts of the Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
- Heart
- Numerous blood vessels
–pumps blood throughout the body via blood vessels
- heart has three layers.
- -endocardium
- -myocardium
- -epicardium
- -Two partitions acts as a pump.
- right side of the heart pumps blood low in oxygen to the lungs.
- left side pumps oxygenated blood to remainder of the body.
Superior and inferior Venae Cavae
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Brings deoxygenated blood to the right atrium.
Pulmonary Vein
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Brings oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
Pulmonary Artery
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Takes deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs fro the exchange of carbon dioxide for oxygen.
Orta
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
– takes blood from the left ventricle to the body.
Valves of the heart
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
– mitral, bicuspid valve- two flaps -is on the left of the atrioventricular valve.
– project into the ventricles by the chordae tendineae.
–seminlunar valves - made up of three flapes
–pulmonary semilunar valve lies at the entrance to the pulmonary artery.
–aortic semilunar valve lies at the entrance to the aorta.
The conduction System of the heart
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Heart is a muscle with its own conduction system. The conduction generates and distributes electrical impulses that cause the contraction of the heart.
Sinoatrial node (SA Node)
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
- The natural pace make of the heart.
- Located in the upper wall the right atrium.
–SA node initiates each cardiac cycle and spreads electrical impulses over both atria causing them to contract.
Atrioventricular Node (AV Node)
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Located at the bottom of the right atrium, sends electrical impulses through the bundle of HIS to the top of the interventricular septum.
Bundle of His
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
–Located at the top of the interventricular septum.
–Has branches that extend to all parts of the ventricular walls that distribute electrical impulses over the surface of the ventricles.
Purkinje Fibers
Cardiovascular and Blood Systems
– located off the bundle branches of the bundle of HIS.
–travel in a branching network and distribute the impulses to the cells of myocardium of the ventricle, causing contraction.
