furoemide
- Have you noticed any changes in hearing?
-olol
- pulse doesn’t go too low, too quick
- orthostatic hypotension
- wheezing in lungs (check!!)
-pril
Avoid potassium supplements (salt substitutes), watch for hypotension,
CAPTOPRIL (do not take with food)
Calcium channel blockers
No grapefruit juice
diltiazem, amlodipine, verapamil
digoxin
halo around large lights can be a sign of toxicity, pt should know that their potassium levels should be checked
nitroglycerin
Tablets: place tablet under tongue and leave until dissolved
Spray: spray into oral cavity but do not swallow
! Take one tablet/spray every 5 minutes up to three times, after 15 minutes (three doses) if chest pain not relieved call 911 !
Must be stored in a dark container
ONLY good for 6 months
Avoid alcohol
Sit down for administration and have barf bucket ready
gemfibrozil
take on an empty stomach
-statin
! Administer at night !
aspirin
DC 1 week before surgery
warfarin
should not be eating leafy greens or other foods containing vitamin K
- 1st 5 days daily draws
- 2 times per week (2 weeks)
- Once a week (2 months)
- Every 2-4 month (life)
- Need draws whenever theres a med change, or if there is a diet change (vegetarian)
all anticoagulants
pts should know about
- dangers of bleeding
- wear a med alert bracelet
- avoid prolonged immobility
- elevate legs when sitting
- flowly clothes
- avoid alcohol
- soft tooth brush
- electric razor (less cuts)
- tell all providers
- watch herbal/over counter medication usage
Do not get pregnant or lactate
