Capacity Shortage Warnings Flashcards
How many Capacity Shortage Warnings are there, and what are they?
There are 3 Capacity Shortage Warnings:
- Primary Reserve Warning
- Voltage Reduction Warning & Reduction of Non-Critical Plant Load
- Manual Load Dump Warning
What is the purpose of the Primary Reserve Warning?
Warns members that the available Primary Reserve is less than the required Primary Reserve and present operations are becoming critical.
What is the trigger for a Primary Reserve Warning?
Issued when the Primary Reserve is less than the Primary Reserve Requirement but greater than the Synchronized Reserve Requirement.
What is the purpose of a Voltage Reduction Warning & Reduction of Non-Critical Plant Load?
To inform the Member Companies that the available Synchronized Reserve is less than required and present operations may require a voltage reduction.
What is the trigger for a Voltage Reduction Warning & Reduction of Non-Critical Plant Load?
When actual Synchronized Reserve is less than the Synchronized Reserve Requirement.
What is the purpose of the Manual Load Dump Warning?
To warn member companies of increasingly critical system conditions that require manually dumping load.
What is the trigger for the Manual Load Dump Warning?
When the Primary Reserve is less than the largest operating generating unit or the loss of a transmission facility jeopardizes reliability after all possible measures have been taken to increase reserves.
