Cancer Flashcards
Cancer
Uncontrollable cell division
Cause
Damage to the genes that control the cell cycle
Become
Tumours
Benign Tumours
grow very large but do not destroy surrounding tissue
Maligant Tumours
destroy surrounding tissue
cells break away and spread through the blood
forming secondary tumours
Metastasis
Dangerous
can develop its own blood vessels
can undergo metastasis
secondary tumours
Treatment
some are terribly mutated so our body can destroy them
any cancer treatment will also kill our helathy cells
Aims
to kill cancer cells without damaging healthy cells
target what makes them different
What makes them different
uncontrollable cell division
Chemotherapy
use of chemicals to treat cancer
Cisplastin
cross links (joins) different DNA molecules in the cell with string covalent bonds
Evastin
slows down the growth of new blood vessels
Vinblastin
stops the joining of micro tubules to form the spindle
Taxol
stops the shortening and contraction of the spindle
Vinblastin and Taxol
stops division taking place
