Fall in death rates due to improved food supply, sanitation and hygiene, disease reduced
Birth rates high due to lack of contraception, children seen as workers
Stage 3? 1880-1940
Fall in death rates due to medical advances - 1907 training for midwives and 1929 penicillin
Fall in birth rates due to education, children no longer allowed to work and more woman in workforce
Stage 4?1940 - present
Death rates level out due to national health service
Birth rates fall due to 1960 birth control pill, woman’s status and social change
