Rule 3.1
Parking/Emergency Brake
Yellow push/pull know applies the brakes to all units/combinations
Brakes only used when the vehicle has come to a complete stop or during an emergency, whether the engine is running or not
When parking the driver must:
Always apply parking brakes when parking
Ensure parking brakes are holding the vehicle from moving before exiting the truck
When parking the driver must not:
Use the parking brake to slow or stop vehicle
Use a hand control valve or work brake for parking
Use the parking brake to restrain a vehicle with the engine running and the transmission in a forward or reverse gear
Leave the vehicles transmission in gear when parking
When parking truck/tractor and trailer drivers:
Never use the trailer parking brake system alone
Must apply the truck/tractor and trailer parking brake systems together
If the truck is equipped with a trailer brake (spike), it is not to be used as a parking brake
Rule 3.2
Vehicle Gauges
Gauges must be checked throughout the day.
Do not operate a vehicle with low air or oil pressure or with high water temperature
If warning signal comes on:
Locate a safe place to stop
Shut the engine off
Call dispatch
Inform dispatch of the problem and have them contact maintenance for direction
