Brain Processing And Gentics (unit 2 Pt 1) Flashcards
Dual processing
The idea that info in being simultaneously processed consciously and unconsciously
Blindside
A condition where a person can respond to a visual stimulus without consciously experiencing it
Parallel processing
Processing many aspects of a problem at the same time. Usually used to process well known info or to solve an easy problem
Sequential processing
Processing one aspect of a problem at a time. Usually used to process new info or solve a hard problem
Behavior genetics
The study of the relative power and limits of genetic and environmental influences on behavior
Heredity
The genetic transfer of characteristics between parents and offspring
Environment
Every nongenetic influence, from prenatal nutrition to the people and things around us
Chromosome
Threadlike structures made up of dna molecules that contain genes
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid, a complex molecule that contains the genetic info that makes up chromosomes
Genes
The biochemical segments of DNA that make up chromosomes and can synthesize proteins
Genome
The complete instructions for making an organism. Consist of all the genetic info in chromosomes
Genes can be
Active (expressed) or inactive
Identical twins
Monozygotic twins. Develop from a single fertilized egg creating two genetically identical organisms
Identical twins can only be
The same sex
Fraternal twins
Dizygotic twins. Develop from separate fertilized eggs, no closer then ordinary sibling but they share a prenatal environment
