Angle of louis
- this is where the 2nd rib attaches and where the manubrium meets the body of the sternum
costal border
made up of ribs 8-10 and the diaphragm attaches here
Where is the heart located roughly
ribs 2-5
Location of maximal impulse?
mid clavicular line/5th intercostal space
- can palpate apical heart rate and listen to mitral valve/heart sounds here
- left side
Auscultation points heart
- 2nd right intercostal space = aortic
- 2nd left intercostal space = pulmonic
- 5th left intercostal space = tricuspid
- 5th intercostal space mid clavicular line = bicuspid
Where is the oblique fissure located anteriorly and posteriorly
On both sides it goes from rib 6 - SP of T3 (spine of scapula)
Where is the horizontal fissure located
Fourth rib/3rd intercostal space
to the oblique fissure around the 5th rib
Where is the upper lobe located
anteriorly:
- Right: between ribs 1-4
- Left: between ribs 1-6
posteriorly :
- Right: above SP T3
- Left: same as right
Where is the middle lobe located
- anteriorly: between ribs 4-6
- Posteriorly: cannot be heard
Lingular lobe location?
- Anteriorly: between 4-6
- posteriorly: cannot be heard
Lower lobe location
- anteriorly: cannot be heard but between ribs 6-10 (anteriorly maybe 6-8)
- Posteriorly: T4 to T10
