Blood flow and coronary circulation Flashcards
where does the superior vena cava receive blood from?
head, neck and upper limbs
where does the inferior vena cave receive blood from?
everywhere but head, neck and upper limbs
how does blood flow through the right side of the heart?
deoxygenated blood is received from both the superior and inferior VC, enters the right atrium, and is pumped via the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle, the right ventricle pumps blood into the pulmonary trunk via the pulmonary valve
how does blood flow through the left side of the heart?
oxygenated blood is received in the left atrium via the pulmonary vein, blood flows through mitral valve from the left atrium to the left ventricle, blood is pumped out of the left ventricle via the aortic valve
what are the two pacemaker systems?
sino-atrial node
atrioventricular node
does the heart require a nerve supply?
no, it has an inherent rhythm
what are the two major branches of the coronary arteries?
right and left
where are the coronary arteries found in the heart?
circle the atrioventricular groove
what are the first branches of the aorta?
coronary arteries, arise from the aortic sinuses
what are the 2 main branches of the right coronary artery?
marginal and posterior interventricular
what are the other 2 branches of the right coronary artery?
sinoatrial nodal and atrioventricular nodal
what are the 2 main branches of the left coronary artery?
anterior interventricular and circumflex
what are the other 2 branches of the left coronary artery?
diagonal and left marginal
in which branch of the coronary artery would a blockage lead to a major MI?
left anterior interventricular (left anterior descending - LAD)
what veins drain to the coronary sinuses?
great, middle and small cardiac veins
