Blood Cells Flashcards
Leukocytes
White blood cells. 5 diff kinds
Granulocytes
Dark staining granules in cytoplasm. Formed in bone marrow
Eosinophils
Stain red. Active in allergies 3% of leukocytes (type of granulocyte)
Basophils
Stain blue. Not a clear function. Number increases in healing process less than 1% of leukocytes
Neutrophils
Stain purple. Disease fighting cells.
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells in bone marrow. Carry oxygen from lungs through body. Burn food and release energy
Mononuclear leukocyte/ agranulocytes
One large nucleus. Produced in bone marrow, lymph nodes, and spleen
Lymphocytes
Fight disease by producing antibodies and attaching then destroying. T cells and B cells 32% of leukocytes
Monocytes
One large nucleus. Eat destroy debris. Enter tissue from blood. 4% of leukocytes
