birth rate and death rate indicators etc Flashcards
Total Fertility rate (TRF)
Total Fertility rate (TRF) - The average number of children
that would be born alive to a woman during her lifetime if she were to pass through her childbearing years conforming to the age-specific fertility rates of a given year.
Life expectancy at birth
- The number of years newborn
children would live is subject to the mortality risks prevailing for the cross-section of population at the time of their birth
What are the
factors of
mortality?
death - The complete loss of function of the cerebral neocortex and brain stem
stillbirth - Birth of a baby showing no signs of life.>1000g
miscarriage - accidental loss of a foetus before a full term
pregnancy resulting in the death of the foetus
fetal death
early fetal death - <20 weeks
intermediate fetal death
late fetal death >28 weeks
infant death <1 year old from 28 days
maternal death - The death of a women while pregnant or
within 42 days of termination of pregnancy,
What is
registration?
Vital registration is concerned with the recording of key life cycle or vital events, According to the United Nations (2003)
these are: “A live birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce, adoption, legitimation of birth, recognition of parenthood, annulment of marriage or legal separation.” Unlike censuses that describe the state of the population at a fixed point in time,
vital statistics are collected on a continuous basis, and are thus are important for the study of population change
What are the
related Indices?
total fertility rate
crude birth rate
births per year
Neonatal mortality rate
Early neonatal mortality rate (per 1000)- t 0-6 days after live birth
late neonatal mortality rate (per 1000)- 7 - 27
Post-neonatal mortality rate
Child mortality under 5, male
Child mortality under 5, female
what does crude birth rate etc fall under
socio- economic and demographic indicators
crude birth rate
live births during the year/ average annual pop in that year ….per 1000
scale of assesment
low <15
average
high >25
infant mortality
deaths under 1 year / live births that occured that year x 100
