Anosognosia
Mood disorder characterized by major depression and at least one episode of mania
Bipolar I disorder
Mood disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of major depression alternating with episodes of hypomania
Bipolar II disorder
An acute depressive episode associated with a bipolar disorder (distinguished from unipolar depression, an acute depressive episode experienced by an individual who does not have bipolar disorder)
Bipolar depression
A bipolar disorder characterized by the presence of mixed or soft features that do not necessarily meet full diagnostic criteria for either bipolar I, bipolar II, or MDD
Bipolar spectrum disorder
A chronic mood disturbance of at least 2 year duration characterized by numerous episodes of hypomania depressed mood of insufficient severity to meet the full criteria for bipolar I or bipolar II disorder
Cyclothymic disorder
An unpleasant mood state, such as sadness, anxiety, or irritability
Dysphoric mood
Normal mood
Euthymic
A milder form of mania that does not impair functioning
Hypomania
An excessively elevated or irritable mood characterized by high levels of arousal and energy that cause significant impairment.
Mania
A period of excessively elevated or irritable mood lasting every day for most of the day for a week or more with three or more of the following symptoms present: inability to or decreased need for sleep; altered thought processes; increased activity; and engaging in risky or harmful activities.
Manic episode
In bipolar disorder, three or more depressive symptoms in conjunction with three or more manic or hypomanic symptoms.
Mixed features
Rapid changes in mood
Mood lability
Four or more alterations between depression and mania or hypomania within 1 year.
