BIOPSYCHOLOGY - Synaptic Transmission Flashcards
1
Q
What is synaptic transmission?
A
The process by which an impulse is passed between a pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neuron across the synapse using chemical messengers.
2
Q
Explain how an electrical impulse is induced within a neuron.
A
When a neuron is activated by a stimulus, the inside of the cell becomes positively charged for a split second causing an action potential to occur which creates an electrical impulse that travels down the axon towards the end of the neuron.
