11
Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of random sampling

A

Advantage- no biased data

Disadvantage- may underestimate biodiversity by missing out some animals

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of opportunistic sampling

A

Advantages- easier and quicker

Disadvantage- biased sampling, may overestimate biodiversity by including large animas

Q

What is systematic sampling

A

Species are sampled using belt or line transects so samples are taken at fixed intervals across the habitat

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of systematic sampling

A

Advantages- shows a clear gradient in some environmental factor
Disadvantage- only species in that line or belt are sampled, could underestimate the line

Q

What is stratified sampling

A

Dividing a habitat into areas which appear different and sample each separately

17
Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of stratified sampling

A

Advantages- Ensures all different habitats are sampled, species aren’t underrepresented due to the possibility that random sampling masses certain areas
Disadvantage - possibility of over representation of some areas in the sample
