What are some characteristics of Angiosperms?
-Accounts for roughly 90% of living plants
-Widely range in size and form
-Have magnoliids; avocados, pepper plants
-Have eudicots; cabbage, daisies, trees
-have monocots; rice, corn, wheat
What are the characteristics of Monocots?
-have 1 cotyledon
-have parallel veins
-scattered vascular tissue
-fibrous root system (no main root)
-pollen grain with 1 opening
-flowers are typically in sets of 3

-taproot (has a main root)
-Pollen grain with 3 openings
-flowers are typically in sets of 4 or 5
Stamen
The male part of the flower made up of 2 parts, the filament and the anther
Filament
Supports the reproductive organ, the anther
Anther
the reproductive organ of the plant, main job is to produce pollen
Carpel
The female part of the plant, consists of the stigma, style, ovary, and ovule
Stigma
Sticky tip of the style that captures pollen grains
Style
Stalk that supports the stigma and connects it to the ovary so fertilization can occur.
Pollen tube
forms within the style and carries pollen grains (male sperm) towards the ovules (female eggs)
Ovary
Holds the ovules
Ovules
creates megaspores (female eggs)
Petals
Brightly colored used to attract pollinators
Sepals
Base leaves of the flower that supports the petals
