What needs to be assessed after a Cholecystectomy?
O2 saturation level (until effects of anesthesia have passed)
Should the pt perform deep breathing exercises after a Cholecystectomy?
Yes–hourly!
When can the pt have food and water after a Cholecystectomy?
when fully awake/after anesthesia has worn off
How can aspiration be prevented?
HOB elevated
What is the teaching for steri strips?
will fall off naturally in about one week to ten days
What can be used for incisional pain?
ice and oral opioids
When would heat be used?
Thoracic/abdominal discomfort due to carbon dioxide retention
When can pt bathe/shower?
Day after surgery
how should high fat foods be introduced?
one at a time to see what can be tolerated the best
With the open method, how long will pt be NPO?
until peristalsis returns
In the obese method, how is nutrition advanced?
- clear to solid
- low fat diet at first (esp. of pt nauseous
- avoid excess fatty foods
- of obese, recommend weight reduction
What signs does pt need to report to MD?
-repeated abdominal/epigastric pain
-vomiting
diarrhea
**several days to months (indicate PCS)
