BEHV 101 Week 7 Flashcards
Motivating Operation (MO)
Stimules that:
(a) Alters the effectiveness of some stimulus as a reinforcer, and
(b) Alters the current frequency of all behavior that has been reinforced by that stimulus
Establishing Operation
A Motivating Operation (MO) that results in an increase in the reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus
Value-Altering Effect
Increase or decrease in reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus
Behavior-Altering Effect
Increase or decrease in CURRENT frequency of a behavior that has been reinforced by a stimulus
Function-Altering Effect
Change in organism’s repertoire of MO, stimulus & response relations caused by learning history
Reinforcer-Abolishing Effect
A decrease in reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus caused by a MO
Reinforcer-Establishing Effect
An increase in reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus caused by a MO
Evocative Effect
Increase in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus
Abative Effect
Decrease in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus
Abolishing Operation (AO)
MO that results in a decrease in the reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus
Unconditioned Motivating Operation (UMO)
Stimulus conditions that acquire their value- and behavior-altering effects as a result of the person’s evolutionary history/is unlearned
Conditioned Motivating Operation (CMO)
MOs that alter the reinforcing effectiveness of other stimuli as a result of learning history
Surrogate CMO (CMO-S)
Accomplishes the same outcome as the MO with which it was paired
EXAMPLE: Time on the clock influences the reinforcing value of food
Reflexive CMO (CMO-R)
Alters the values of its own removal or continued presence as a type of reinforcement or punishment
EXAMPLE: Delivery of a demand establishes the reinforcing value of its removal
Transitive CMO (CMO-T)
Alters the value of another stimulus or event as a type of reinforcement or punishment
EXAMPLE: Presence of a lock on a fridge establishes the reinforcing value of a key when access to food is valuable as a source of reinforcement
MO Unpairing
Presenting CMO-S without the effective MO
