define reactive attachment disorder (RAD)

define inhibited RAD
child fail to initiate or respond to social interaction in developmentally appropriate way e.g. does not seek comfort during times of threat
define disinhibited RAD
child unable to display appropriate selective attachment e.g. excessive familiarity with strangers
red flags in very young children
persistent and medically unexplained severe colic
poor eye contact
no smile response
delayed gross motor development
difficulty being comforted, resists affection from caregiver
appears stiff
RAD symptoms in older children
impulsiveness lack of social boundaries lack of remorse affectionate with strangers hyperactive aggressive

persistent pattern of behaviour where basic rights of other or age-appropriate norms or rules are violated

three or more in the past 12 months and on present in the past 6 months
- aggression to people or animals
- destruction of property
- deceitful or theft
- serious violation of rules

mild-moderate
severe
