Behavior Mod exam 2 Flashcards
What are antecedent stimuli?
The event the precedes the occurrence of an operant response
Defined as the increased probability that a behavior will occur only in the presence of a specific antecedent stimulus from a specific stimulus class
Stimulus Control
Defined as the antecedent stimulus that is present when a behavior is reinforced
S(D) (discriminative stimulus)
Defined as any stimulus that is present when the behavior does not get reinforced.`
S-delta
When does stimulus generalization occur?
When a behavior occurs in the presence of stimuli that are similar in some ways to the SD that was present during stimulus discrimination training.
A type of stimulus which elicits a response with no prior learning or conditioning.
Unconditioned Stimulus (US)
A response which is elicited by an antecedent stimulus (a US) even though no conditioning has taken place. It is a natural reflexive action of the body that occurs when a US is present.
Unconditioned Response (UR)
When a neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus (CS) by being paired with an unconditioned stimulus (the neutral stimulus and US are presented together). What is this process called?
Respondent Conditioning
How does Respondent extinction happen?
The CS is repeatedly present without presenting the US until the CS no longer elicits the CR
When the CS elicits the CR sometime later after extinction has taken place that is…
spontaneous recovery
Defined as the differential reinforcement of successive approximation of a target behavior until the target behavior is exhibited by the individual.
Shaping
An antecedent stimulus that evokes a response. It is used to increase the likelihood that an individual will engage in the correct behavior at the correct time used during discrimination training.
A prompt
When the verbal behavior of another person results in the correct response in the presence of the SD.
Verbal prompt
any physical movement or gesture of another person that leads to the correct behavior in the presence of the SD
.
Gesutral prompt
any demonstration of the correct behavior by another person that makes it more likely that the correct behavior will occur at the right time.
Modeling prompt
When another person physically assists the individual to engage in the correct behavior at the right time.
physical prompt
involves some change in a stimulus or the addition or removal of a stimulus to make a correct
response more likely
A stimulus prompt
A type of stimulus prompt where the SD is altered.
Within-stimulus prompt
A type of stimulus prompt where another stimulus or cue as added to the SD.
Extra-stimulus prompt
defined as providing the least intrusive
prompt first and using more intrusive prompts only as necessary to get the correct behavior to occur.
Least-to-most-prompting
, the most intrusive prompt is used first and is then faded to less intrusive prompts.
most-to-least prompting
What is a stimulus response chain/ behavioral chain?
A method of training that consists of a number of stimulus-response components that occur together in a sequence.
