Q

What is the function of the LYMPH

A
  • transports oxygen, hormones and nutrients to different parts of the body
  • transports white blood cells to help defend against infection
  • maintains fluid levels by removing waste products and fluid then returning it to the blood circulation
  • transports fats absorbed by intestines

Q

What are the functions of the lymphatic vesssels?

A

Q

What are the functions of the lymphocytes (B and T cells)

A

These are white blood cells which are responsible for immunity

  1. B-cells produce antibodies that attach to pathogens to destroy bacteria and viruses
  2. T-cells find infected and abnormal cells and directly destroy pathogens

Lymphocytes can respond quickly to give us immunity

Q

What are the functions of the spleen?

A
  1. Filters the blood - destroying and recycling parts of the red blood cells and other cells
  2. Stories blood (up to 350ml)
  3. Stores red blood cells when the body needs more oxygen e.g. exercising, the spleen can release blood cells into your bloodstream
