B5 - Structure, Function And Siroders Of The Muscular System Flashcards
1
Q
How do isotonic contractions work?
A
Generate force by changing the length of the muscle
2
Q
What are the 2 types of isotonic contractions?
A
Concentric - causes muscles to shorten by generating force
Eccentric - causes muscles to get longer in response to a greater opposing force
3
Q
Why are isometric constrictions?
A
Generate force without changing the length of the muscle
4
Q
What are the agonistic pair?
A
Muscles that work together
5
Q
What is flexion?
A
The angle of your joint decreases (bending)
6
Q
What is muscular dystrophy?
A
- weakness in legs (balance and mobility)
- curved posture
- gradual weakening of heart and diaphragm (breathing difficulties- die young - 30/40 years)
- inherited condition through female gene (males have more extreme symptoms)
