B5 - Structure, Function And Siroders Of The Muscular System Flashcards
How do isotonic contractions work?
Generate force by changing the length of the muscle
What are the 2 types of isotonic contractions?
Concentric - causes muscles to shorten by generating force
Eccentric - causes muscles to get longer in response to a greater opposing force
What are isometric contraction?
Generate force without changing the length of the muscle
What are the agonistic pair?
Muscles that work together
What is flexion?
The angle of your joint decreases (bending)
What is adduction?
Muscles that move towards the midline
What is extension?
Increasing angle like straightening your arm
What is muscular dystrophy?
A genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness
What are the causes of muscular dystrophy?
- family history
- mutation in genes
What are the symptoms of Muscular dystrophy?
- frequent falls
- trouble running
- walking on toes
What are the long term effects of Muscular dystrophy?
- breathing difficulties
- swallowing problems
- anxiety
