B1.4 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
where do photosynthesis occur
photosynthesis takes place inside the chloroplasts. the chloroplasts contain chlorophyll absorbs the light from the sun
what is the equation for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
what is the number equation for photosynthesis
6C02 + 6H20 —-> C6H1206 +602
what is an endothermic reaction
energy going into the reaction
what are the stages of photosynthesis
1) light from the sun, carbon dioxide diffused from the air, water from the soil.
2) chlorophyll in the leaves.
3) glucose for biomass and energy, oxygen released as a by product
what do plants do with the glucose they make during photosythesis
they use it for respiration - to release enegy. they use it to make other sugars, starch and cellulose
what is glucose used in
glucose is used immediately in respiration
what is fructose found in
fructose is found in high quantities of fruit
what does sucrose need to be transported through
sucrose needs to be transported through the phloem
what is starch used for
used for storage
what are proteins, cellulose and fat used
used in cell growth and repair
what is a limiting factor
a limiting factor is any factor that will slow down the rate of photosynthesis if there is not enough of it
what factors limit the rate of photosynthesis
temperature, carbon dioxide concentration, light intensity, amount of water
