B10 Nervous System Flashcards
What is homeostasis
The peocess of keeping everyhting inside your body constant ( internal environment)
What are receptors
Cells that detect change in the internal or external environment, these changes are known as stimuli.
What are coordination centres
areas that receive and process the information given from the receptors, they send out signals and coordinate the response of the body.
What are coordination centres
areas that receive and process the information given from the receptors, they send out signals and coordinate the response of the body.
What are effectors
Muscles or glands that bring about responses to the stimulus that has been recieved. These responses restore conditions in the body at optimum levals
What is the relationship between neurons and nerves
Neurons are fund in undreds or thousand bunches of nerves
What are sensory neurons
Sensory neurons are cells that carry impulses from your sense organs to your CNS
What are motor neurons
Motor neurons carry impulses from your CNS to the rest of your body
What is synapse
A small gap between two neurons which allows electrical impulses to pass across
What does a neurone do
Transmit electrical impulses across nervous system quickly
