CBT aim
find ways to cope with anxiety felt by kids with ASD
CBT process
-individually tailored to cause of discomfort eg if they feel disliked causing anxiety around communication
-alter thought processes providing tools for stressful situations
-challenges faulty/maladaptive thinking by using disputing evidence, logically weighing it up
-1 on 1 with therapist or group
-uses repetition and verbal cues to help work with emotions and abstract thoughts

-found kids have less anxiety after CBT(parental self reported) and kid identified positive strategies to cope, effectiveness increases when parents are involved
-treatment effective

-found 78.5% improvement in anxiety for ASD after 16 CBT sessions compared to 8.7% control with no treatment, reassessed 3 months later=same thing
-effective
