-Attitude was first published in 1994 by Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell group
- It was sold in 2004, and was put through a variety of owners until it was purchased by Stream Publishing in 2014
-It could be argued that this is a response to the rise of heterosexual male lifestyle magazines

-It is an independent publishing company with a fairly small number of staff who are known for making magazines for corporations

-Attitude used to the owned by a media conglomerate, but it is now owned by an independent publisher
-This now means that Attitude is more free and less commercial

By Attitude using their website as a marketing tool, Stream Publishing LTD are attempting to maximise their audience of Attitude whilst also taking less risks as risk taking could result in a loss for the company
Regulation (Livingstone and Lunt)
The website for Attitude is regulated by Ofcom meaning that it must adhere to its guidelines. YouTube is self regulatory, so Attitude themselves monitor and regulate their own videos

-On the website for Attitude, the only way that audiences can directly interact with the product is through the ‘get in touch’ link on their website, so audiences are unable to comment underneath articles
-This means that the website is more like a traditional magazine

-Dynamic readership of affluent, fashion conscious, brand loyal men
-Professional 20s-30s, financially prosperous
-High careers, enjoy engaging with new technologies
-Trend setters who are dawn to brands with a gay press style
-Conscious with premium fashion, grooming and luxury goods
How does Attitude construct and position Audiences?
- Through a choice of stories, how the stories are mediated, mode of address (a mixture of formal and informal) in order to create and maintain a relationship between audiences and producers
- Whilst audiences may not agree with all of the points of the views shown in Attitude, they can negotiate readings (Hall), and can pick and mix the representations in whatever way they wish to (Gauntlett)
Preferred Reading (Hall)
Attitude is informative, entertaining, fun and makes them want to buy the magazine as they are interested in what content it has to offer
Negotiated Reading (Hall)
Agree with the ideology of the magazine but may not find all of the articles interesting
Oppositional Reading (Hall)
From a homophonic straight males who do not agree with the ideologies that Attitude promotes, and doesn’t agree with the lifestyles that are presented
