Why do people study orphans?
To study the effects of deprivation on emotional and intellectual development
What was Rutter’s research?
Michael Rutter (2011) followed a group of 165 romanian orphans for many years as part of the ERA study
What was the aim of the ERA study?
To investigate the extent to which good care could make up for poor early experiences in institutionalisation

Delayed intellectual development and most were severely malnourished
