ATP/energy changes in reactions Flashcards
Anabolic
Requires energy to make bonds (requires ATP -> ADP)
Catabolic
Releases energy when bonds are broken
What is ATP present in the cytosol as
A complex with Mg2+
Substrate level phosphorylation
Forming ATP using ADP and the phosphate from another substrate
What does SLP require
Soluble enzymes and chemical intermediates
What do oxidoreductases do
Transfer of electrons
What do transferases do
Transfer of functional groups
What are co factors
Non protein molecules - either co enzymes or metal ions
What do coenzymes do/what are they
They participate in enzymatic reactions
They cycle between reduced and oxidised forms
They are not constantly attached to the enzyme
Prosthetic groups
non-protein cofactor that is covalently bound to the enzyme (Not released during a reaction)
Where does glycolysis occur
Cytosol
