First Continental Congress

A

the colonies meet in Philadelphia in Carpenter’s Hall and 12 colonies attend and bring representatives. (Georgia does not attend) They make a letter named the Olive Branch Petition and agree that they won’t buy any British products, Boston gathers military supplies, and at the end they begged the king to give them 13 seats in parliament and then they will pay any tax they create. England replied and said they could have seats in parliament, but a war has already started, and colonies were not interested anymore.

Second Continental congress -

A

is a meeting held in Philadelphia and all 13 colonies send representatives. This is the group that asks (What are we fighting for?) asking if they want to break away from England or want 13 chairs in England apart of parliament. John Hancock and Henry Laurens are both presidents of the second continental congress. After Hancock resigns Henry Laurens steps up as president.

Henry Laurens -

A

Elected as president after Hancock steps down and Henry Laurens serves as president in the remainer of the war. He helps Washington keep being general. Laurens has a son in the army John Laurens was an aid to Washington in valley forge. John Laurens got a letter saying if Gates becomes general the army if not fighting for anyone else. John Laurens takes the letter back to his dad saying better watch what you do if you carry through with the conspiracy the war will fade away.

Horatio Gates –

A

A British general who left the British military and went with the 13 colonies and was Washington’s right-hand man because he had great experience on the battlefield. He hated Washington. Gates goes to congress when they are thinking of replacing Washington as commander.

What 3 things happens that supported John Adams argue to break away from England?

A

1) congress gets letters from Washington and other armies that England hired hessians (Mercenaries/ soldiers) to kill. and half of the men surrendered, and the hessians killed them. 2) Washington had 19000 men and loses 17000. 89% of people dies in the first year and sons die, and john Adams go to them and says that their son’s death will mean more. 3) US gets in debt and ends the war with 51 million dollars in debt.

A

He was caught in the target of john Adams. After reading Common Sense he blackballed Thomas Paine and followed him around and tells the waitress to seduce Thomas and wants to make it look like Thomas is having affair. He makes people question Thomas Paine’s character.

What 3 things did Thomas Jefferson wanted to include in the declaration of independence?

A

Thomas Jefferson wanted to abolish slavery and when he brought it up to South Carolina said that they wouldn’t fight for independence and go to England. The first country to allow women to have same rights as men but John Adams laughed and says women are too emotional. Kids to go to school but the entire south said no because they wanted the kids to work, and Thomas Jefferson backed back off the issues and he made.
