Arteries of Forearm/Paw Flashcards
Ulnar Artery
will be the caudal branch off the common interosseous artery. It will supply the ulnar and humeral heads of the deep digital flexor and the flexor carpi ulnaris.
Common Interosseous Artery
The brachial artery continues as the common interosseous and then as the median artery. The common interosseous artery will fill the space between the radius/ulna and branch into three branches: ulnar artery, caudal interosseous artery, and cranial interosseous artery.
Caudal Interosseous Artery
lies between the apposed surfaces of the radius/ulna. It supplies the palmar surface of the forepaw.
Cranial Interosseous Artery
passes through the proximal interosseous space cranially. Supplies muscles lying laterally and cranially in the forearm.
Median Artery
the continuation of the brachial artery/common interosseous. The deep antebrachial/radial artery branch off the median artery. This artery is the main source of blood for the paw. It is accompanied by the Median Nerve. The Median Nerve/Artery pass through the carpal canal.
Superficial Palmar Arch
Median Artery, Median Nerve, Superficial/Deep Digital Flexor Tendons pass through Carpal Canal, to the metacarpus, forming the superficial palmar arch, with a branch of the caudal interosseous artery.
Radial Artery
comes from the medial side of the medial artery in the middle of the forearm. It supplies the deep vessels of the forepaw.
Deep Antebrachial Artery
is a caudal branch of the median artery. It supplies the flexor carpi radialis, deep digital flexor, flexor carpi ulnaris, and superficial digital flexor.
