angiotensin converting enzyme
- converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor
- inhibiting ACE would decrease production of angiotensin II to lower BP
pt. counseling for ACE inhibitors
- non-productive cough may develop within first week of therapy (3x more prominent in women - 10-12% incidence): change drug
- BBW: do NOT use in pregnancy
- avoid salt substitutes
