How is variability assessed?

Are decelerations on a CTG always pathological?
No; if in time with contractions, known as early and are normal
If after peak of contraction; late or slow to recover to baseline = bad sign
What is a normal, borderline or abnormal foetal pH?
Normal; 7.25 or more
Borderline 7.2-7.25
Abnormal <7.2
3 Ps of failure to progress?
Power; inadequate contractions (start oxytocin)
Passage; pelvis too small, see lots of moulding
Passenger; macrosomia etc
What are signs of cephalopelvic disproportion?
Excessive moulding of head Caput Anuria Haematuria Vulval oedema Dry and hot vagina Presenting part doesn't engage; high station
