Animal Transport Part 2 Flashcards
Order that air enters lungs?
INHALE:
Nose/mouth - trachea - bronchus - bronchioles - alveoli - blood
Inhale air is high in?
Oxygen
Exhale air is high in?
Carbon dioxide
What does the cartilage do?
Holds the bronchi and trachea open and stops them from collapsing during breathing
What does the sticky mucus do?
Sticky mucus in the trachea lining traps the dirt and bacteria
What traps the dirt and bacteria in the trachea lining?
Sticky mucus
What do the tiny hairs in the trachea lining do? (Cilia)
The tiny hairs push the mucus with the trapped dirt away from the lungs
What pushes the mucus and the trapped dirt away from the lungs?
The cilia
What do the alveoli have?
- large surface area
- good blood supply
- thin walls to make them more efficient for diffusion of gases
What fills with air when we breathe in
Alveoli
What diffuses into the alveoli?
Carbon dioxide
Movement of food through the digestive system order?
Stomach-small intestine (digestion completed) - large intestine
What is peristalsis?
When food passes along the alimentary canal
In peristalsis , what do the muscles behind the food do?
Contract
In peristalsis, what do the muscles in front of the food do?
Relax
