Anatomy of PNS Flashcards
What type of neurone is usually multipolar and where is the cell body found?
Motor
CNS
What type of neurone is usually unipolar (or pseudounipolar) and where is the cell body found?
Sensory
PNS
What is the equivalent of a nerve in the CNS?
A tract
Are tracts usually single or multi modality?
Single
What type of fibres do spinal nerves carry?
Visceral afferent
Somatic afferent
Somatic motor
Sympathetic efferent
What are the dermatomes of the nipple and the umbilicus?
T4
T10
What nerve levels make up the cervical, brachial, lumbar and sacral plexuses?
Cervical - C1-4
Brachial - C5-T1
Lumbar - L1-L4
Sacral - L5-S4
Describe the sympathetic outflow from the spinal cord to the heart and lungs.
Paravertebral ganglia -> cardiopulmonary splanchnic nerves -> heart and lungs
Describe the sympathetic outflow from the spinal cord to the abdominopelvic organs.
Prevertebral ganglia (coeliac, mesenteric etc) -> run on arteries -> abdominopelvic organs
What is parasympathetically supplied by the ciliary ganglion?
Eye
What is supplied by the parasympathetic ganglia in the head?
Lacrimal and salivary glands
Where does the parasympathetic supply to the hindgut, pelvis and perineum come from?
Sacral spinal nerves
