Anatomy (Genitalia) Flashcards
1
Q
Blood Supply, Lymphatic Drainage, & Innervation of Testes
A
- Vessels & Nerves travel into abdomen before pelvis
2
Q
Temperature Regulation of Testicles
A
- Dartos Fascia contracts/wrinkles or relaxes scrotum to bring testicles closer or further away from body
- Veins around testicle artery use countercurrent heat exchange to cool blood entering testicles
3
Q
Sperm Pathway (6)
A
Lobule -> Straight Tubule -> Rete Testis -> Efferent Ductles -> Head of Epididymis -> Ductus Deferens
4
Q
Testicular Torsion
A
- Spermatic cord twists due to inadequate fixation of testis to inferior part of scrotum
- Common after birth & during puberty
5
Q
Superficial vs Deep Dorsal Penile Vein
A
Superficial - drains penile skin
Deep - drains erectile tissue & keeps it in during an erection
6
Q
Crus vs Bulb of Penis
A
Crus - covered by ischicavernosus muscle
Bulb - covered by bulbospongious muscle
- Both help prevent blood from leaving penis during an erection
- Both innervated by Pudendal Nerve
7
Q
Sensory Nerve of Penis/Clitoris
A
- Dorsal nerve of penis/clitoris which is a terminal branch of pudendal nerve
8
Q
Erection and its Maintenance Innervation
A
- Parasympathetic stimulation causes vasodilation of arteries within erectile tissue and allowing blood to fill the cavernous spaces.
- Cutaneous innervation of the glans contributes to maintenance of an erection
- Somatomotor innervation of muscles compresses veins to prevent blood from leaving erectile tissue
9
Q
Ejaculation Innervation
A
- Sympathetic stimulation causes seminal emission
- Somatic stimulation causes spastic contractions of bulbospongiosus muscle
10
Q
Surgical Perineum
A
- Larger than anatomical perineum
- Made larger via Episiotomy (perineotomy) during labor
11
Q
Vestibular Gland
A
- Lubricates vagina during arousal
