Anatomy (Breast & Thoracic Wall) Flashcards
1
Q
Retromammary Space
A
- allows breast to move against pectoralis major
2
Q
Mammary Gland Innervation
A
- Intercostal nerves 4-6 (ventral primary rami)
- Contain somatomotor, somatosensory, & autonomic fibers
3
Q
Breast Innervation
A
- Sensory fibers
- Sympathetic fibers (blood vessels and smooth muscle in skin and nipple)
4
Q
Lymphatic Drainage of Breast
A
- Subareolar lymphatic plexus then..
- Axillary nodes (most), pectoral (anterior), subscapular (posterior), lateral, central, apical then..
- Parasternal nodes then..
- Abdominal nodes
5
Q
Malignancy in Breast (5)
A
- derived from epithelial cells of lactiferous ducts
- usually spreads through lymphatics, but venous system is worse
- inference of lymph drainage produces edema of skin (orange peel)
- can thicken suspensory ligaments (fingertip sized dimples)
- can fix breast to thoracic wall
6
Q
Endothoracic Fascia
A
- separates parietal pleura from thoracic wall
7
Q
Costal Groove
A
- “VAN” from superior to inferior
- Vein
- Artery
- Nerve
- Located below each rib
8
Q
Needle Location for Thoracocentesis
A
- superior to a rib so you don’t hit “VAN”
9
Q
Vein that Drains Brain
A
- Internal jugular veins (left & right)
10
Q
Phrenic Nerve
A
- Innervates diaphragm
- C3, C4, C5
11
Q
Fibers in Diaphragm
A
Somatomotor - skeletal muscle
Somatosensory
Postganglionic Sympathetic - blood vessles
12
Q
Diaphragm Contraction
A
- Inspiration
- Lowers central tendon
13
Q
Vena Cava Foramen Contents
A
- Inferior vena cava
14
Q
Esophageal Hiatus Contents
A
- Esophagus
- Vagus Nerve
15
Q
Aortic Hiatus Contents
A
- Aorta (then is called abdominal aorta)
- Azygos vein
- Thoracic duct
