Anatomy: Blood Vessels and Lymphatics of the Upper Limb Flashcards
How does the brachial artery terminate?
Bifuricates into the radial and ulnar arteries as it moves through the cubital fossa
What does the ulnar artery supply?
The anteromedial aspect of the forearm, gives rise to the anterior and posterior interosseous arteries
Where are the deep lymphatic vessels of the upper limb located?
Follow the major deep veins (i.e. radial, ulnar and brachial veins)
Which apical lymph node receives much lymph from the breast?
Pectoral node
When does the subclavian artery become the axillary artery?
At the lateral border of the first rib
Where do the cubital lymph nodes drain into?
Continue up the arm, terminating in the lateral axillary lymph nodes
What is the profunda brachii?
Deep artery given off by the brachial artery which travels in the radial groove of the humerus and supplies structures in the posterior aspect of the upper arm (e.g. triceps brachii)
Where do the superficial lymphatic vessels of the upper limb initially arise from?
Lymphatic plexuses in the skin of the hand
Which apical lymph node receives lymph from the scapular region?
Subscapular node
Name the deep veins of the upper limb
Ulnar veins, radial veins, brachial veins, axillary vein
Where are the majority of the upper extremity lymph nodes located?
In the axilla
Where does the brachial vein become the axillary vein?
At the lower border of teres major
What does the radial artery supply?
The posterolateral aspect of the forearm
Where do the central lymph nodes drain into?
Apical nodes
Where do the basal lymph nodes drain into?
Central nodes
