Distal row: Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate
Flexor retinaculum attachments
Medial: pisiform and Hook of Hamate
Lateral: Tubercles of Scaphoid and Trapezium
Contents of carpal tunnel proper
Tendons: flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum produndus, flexor pollicis longus
Median n.
Palmaris Brevis ORIGIN
medial palmar aponeurosis and flexor retinaculum
Palmaris Brevis INSERTION
skin of the medial palm
Palmaris Brevis ACTION
wrinkles the skin of the medial palm
Palmaris Brevis INNERVATION
Superficial branch of the Ulnar n.
Dupuytren’s contracture
Pathological fibrosus and shortening of the palmar aponeurosis or logitudinal digital bands creating traction of the fibrous digital sheaths resulting in flexure deformity of the digits (IV-V)
Common flexor synovial sheath (Ulnar bursa)
Common sheath enveloping tendons of the flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor digitorum profundus
-continuous distally with the digital synovial sheath of digit V
Synovial sheath of Flexor pollicis longus (radial bursa)
Lateral to the common synovial flexor sheath, continues distally with the digital synovial sheath of the thumb
Digital synovial sheaths
Envelop flexor tendons within the digital tunnels
-Synovial sheaths of digits II-IV terminate proximally at metacarpal mid-shaft, but digital sheaths of digits I and V are continuous with radial and ulnar bursae
Thenar muscles
Opponens pollicis, abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis
Thenar muscle [N]
Recurrent branch of the median n.
Thenar muscle [O]
Flexor retinaculum and bony attachments (pisiform, Hook of Hamate, and tubercles of Scaphoid and Trapezium)
Abductor pollicis brevis INSERTION
Base of proximal phalanx of the thumb
Abductor pollicis brevis [A]
Abducts the thumb
Flexor pollicis brevis [I]
Base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb
Flexor pollicis brevis [A]
Flexes CM and MP joints of the thumb
