Binds to receptors in brain, spinal cord and peripheral tissues to block and decrease transmission of pain impulses

CNS/Respiratory depression, constricted pupils, decreased GI motility
What is the black box warning of morphine
Do not mix with benzodiazepines = OD
What do we ask our pts to avoid while on morphine
Depressants, alcohol, antihistamine, MAOI’s

GIVE ANOTHER DOSE IF NEEDED
When giving morphine how long do we push IV?

DONT BOLUS IT WILL CAUSE DEATH
