What is circuit training?
Circuit training involves a series of different activities that can be either sport specific or tailored to improve certain aspects of fitness.
Includes multiple stations with rests in between.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of circuit training?
Advantages: works all parts of the body during one training session, works on most aspects of fitness, isn’t boring
Disadvantages: risk of injury, costs a lot, have to plan before hand
What is continuous training?
Continuous training is a steady pace and moderate intensity training method used for developing aerobic endurance.
Usually lasts 30 minutes +
What are the advantages and disadvantages of continuous training?
Advantages: easy to organise and do, requires little to no equipment, can be done anywhere
Disadvantages: good for beginners but not professionals, high risk of injury, can be boring
What is fartlek training?
Fartlek training is performed by changing the intensity by running at different speeds over different terrains.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of fartlek traing?
Advantages of: improves aerobic, muscular and anaerobic endurance, less demanding than other training, reduces the risk of injury
Disadvantages: need to monitor your training intensity, need a lot of self discipline, may need to be outside to change terrains.
What is interval training?
Interval training is periods of exercise followed by rest to allow recovery to occur.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of interval training?
Advantages: used to develop a number of fitness components, little equipment, includes recovery time by shortening sprint times.
Disadvantages: need self discipline, high risk of over-training, increased risk of injury.
