Located in the lungs, effects lungs
-dilates lungs
-smooth muscles of bronchioles, arterioles, and visceral organs
Dopaminergic receptors
-stimulated by dopamine
-causes dilation of blood vessels

cardiac stimulation
-positive inotropic effect

-reduces intraocular pressure, and dilation of pupils in treatment of open-angle glaucoma
(Phenylephrine)

for overactive bladder (frequent urination)
-increases bladder storage capacity

-used in patients during cardiac failure/shock
-increases force of hearts contraction

-vasoactive adrenergic drugs, stimulates beta 1 receptors
-increases cardiac output
Nursing implications for IV administration for adrenergic drugs
-check IV site for infiltration
-use clear IV solutions
-infuse drugs slowly to avoid dangerous cardiovascular effects
-monitor cardiac rhythm
What are the therapeutic effects for adrenergic drugs
-decreased edema
-increased urinary output
-return to normal V/S
-improved skin color/temp (W is normal circulation, C is not normal)
-increased LOC
