8
Q

Why should you be aware of potential amphetamine interaction with acetazolamide (sodium bicarb).

Amphetamines must be slightly acidic

A

Acetazolamide makes the urine basic which favors the re-uptake of the drug in the renal tubules and higher serum drug levels.

Basic urine= overdose

16
Q

Atomoxetine/methylphenidate should not be take by who

A

anyone who is drinking

17
Q

Tourettes is often a comorbid condition with ADHD, alpha2 agonists offer relief only when the tourettes is comorbid

A

Clonidine and guafanicine

Otherwise use antipsychotics like haloperidol

18
Q

Adverse Effects of Amphetamines

A

Hail Syndrome

Headache
Abdominal Pain
Insomnia
Loss of appetite

19
Q

Absolute contraindications in stimulant use

A
  • MAOI use
  • Glaucoma
  • Psychosis
  • Cardiac issues
  • Liver issues
  • Hostory of abuse
20
Q

Alpha 2 agonists (cloniding and guanfacine) overdoes procedure

A

With Clonidine, HTN may occur but its usually hypotension. You want to support the HTN with nitro durgs and the hypotension you want to give atropine or dopamine to increase heart rate.

Guanfacine- also manage hypotension

21
Q

Mangement of amphetamine overdose

A

Benzos…control seizures and heart rate
