addison's disease Flashcards
1
Q
- adrenocortical insufficiency
- ACTH levels elevated
A
addison’s disease
2
Q
s/s:
- dehydration, weakness, fatigue, wt loss, electrolyte ambnormalities
- high potassium, low sodium, low glucose
- ACTH high, cortisol low
A
addison’s disease
3
Q
- indicated for acute or chronic adrenal insufficiency
- combo mineralocorticoid and adrenal corticoid
- risk for hyperglycemia, wt gain, immunosuppression, slowed wound healing, osteoporosis, sodium retention
= IV diluted pushed over 30sec - must be tapered
- no live vaccines
A
hydrocortisone
4
Q
- mineralocorticoid
- used w/ other drugs
- produces sodium retention & potassium secretion
- AE: hyperglycemia, edema, HTN, wt gain, immunosuppression
- interacts w/ furosemide
- CI systemic fungal infections
- assess wt regularly
A
fludrocortisone
5
Q
- too much cortisone
s/s: - moon face, buffalo hump, wt gain
- cortisol suppression test –> cortisol levels will remain high
A
cushing’s disease
