A
Appendix invaded by gut flora due to luminal obstruction
Leads to oedema, necrosis, perfusion

Signs and Symptoms?
A
Periumbilical pain moving to right iliac fossa
Anorexia, pain on coughing, flushing, shallow breathing
Tachycardia, pyrexia, furred tongue, RIF guarding, Rebound/percussion tenderness, painful DRE

Investigations and Findings?
A
FBC - raised WCC
Biochem - raised CRP
USS - swelling
Laparoscopy - diagnosis and treatment

Management?
A
Antibiotics
Prompt appendicectomy - laparotomy/open

Complications?
A
Perforation
Appendicial mass
Abscess
