What is bipolar affective disorder?

A

Characterised by 2 or more episodes in which mood and activity levels are disturbed - disturbance consisting of hypo mania/mania/depression.
Repeated episodes hypo mania or mania-> bipolar

Hypo mania?

A
Mood elevated or irritable (abnormal) and sustained for at least 4 days
At least 3 signs must be present:
Increased activity
Increased talkativeness 
Difficulty concentrating 
Less sleep
Increased sexual energy
Spending sprees/reckless behaviour

A

Socially inappropriate

Reckless behaviours 
Marked sexual energy
